Multidisciplinary Initiatives

Health Systems Management

For over 25 years, our research, executive education, and degree courses have advanced the careers of thousands of executives in health management, insurance, consulting, policy, and bioscience enterprises. At the same time, funded interdisciplinary research and publications have expanded our knowledge of what it takes to control cost, reach more people, and increase the value produced by the health system.

Weatherhead's Health Systems Management Center (HSMC) holds a unique niche in health services research at Case, exploring health care markets, organizations and systems from a management perspective, rather than focusing on medical outcomes.

HSMC research combines medical and management perspectives, drawing primarily on skills found in the Weatherhead faculty. Among current research interests are the pricing of hospital procedures, incentive systems in managed care, labor markets, the growth hormone market, mergers and consolidation, and health policy as it affects organizational structure and value.

HSMC host a number of programs including Women in Healthcare Leadership, Mental Health Executive Leadership, and a Healthcare Executive program.
